Lemmings DS Upgrade

I’ve updated the Downloads page with Version 3.1 of the Lemmings DS ROM, Lemmings DS Builder and Custom Level Utility.

This new version turns the music and sound on by default, and ensures that the music playing ingame is random (at last!) and should fix at least some of the bugs that folks have been having with the game crashing while the music has been fading in and out.

It’ll also change the behaviour of the editor slightly: it replaces the meaningless ‘Zero Overwrite’ level texture object option with a ‘Subtractive’ option, which causes the selected piece to ‘punch through’ existing terrain leaving transparency behind. This upgrade is necessary for some upcoming LemProject goodies.

If you have any questions, please post them in the MrD.net forum.

Welcome to the LemProject!

Well folks, it’s been tough, but I think it’s finally ready…

Today, I present to you:

  • Lemmings DS v3, an open-source port of the Lemmings game engine for the Nintendo DS, written in C++. (Based off the Amiga version.)

  • Lemmings DS Builder v3, an open-source Lemmings DS level editor for Windows, written using the Allegro library.

  • Lemmings DS Custom Level Utility, an open-source utility for attaching levels to a Lemmings DS Rom so they can be played on hardware.

These, and their associated source code, can all be found in the LemProject Downloads section in the panel to the right.

I’m afraid I can’t offer you all of the original Lemmings levels yet (they’re not even slightly compatible), but you’ve got everything you need to start making your own levels. I’ve begun writing some documentation in the LemProject Documentation. Head to the MrDictionary.net forum to share your created levels with other Lemmings players, and to discuss additions and revisions to the code!

A million thanks to the über folks who tested Lemmings DS during its initial creation… including Mike Dailly, sgstair, WinterMute, dovoto, natrium42, Wibble, Stuart Campbell and everybody else who loves Lemmings!
